Internship Overview

NATO Innovation Hub

I was very lucky to land an internship with NATO Innovation Hub this semester. This internship helped me gain knowledge about the world, and also skills that I will be using in my post-grad marketing career. When I started this internship, I had many objectives I wanted to complete to make this a successful experience for my boss and myself. Some objectives that I completed during this internship are preparing and planning events, utilizing social media outlets to announce the summaries of our event, and also recruiting students and faculties from Old Dominion University.

I gained a lot of “real-world” experience and skills by interning with NATO Innovation hub. It also opened up many doors for me with career and connections after graduation. I expanded my knowledge on marketing from NATO, and how to plan a successful international event. I also learned how to successfully write a summary for each event targeting the audience towards the military. I did gain experience that I can include in my resume from this internship. Also I treated this as a full time job and I took it very seriously. I believe my mindset and commitment helped me go further with my internship because I did everything hands on and on set. I made some growth regarding building connections with my coworkers and participants from the events. When first entering in a new environment some individuals can be very timid and shy depending on the workplace. I was very nervous and quite during the first few weeks, but after that I gained the confident to speak out loud because of the positive work environment.

NATO Innovation Hub is constantly having two to three events a month making it hard for me to manage my time. I would recommend the future internship candidate to have an agenda book just for the internship, be very organized and good with time management. I would also recommend them to always take notes and never be afraid to speak up. I had a hard time at first because I was very nervous to ask questions or speak up. The supervisors are very kind and understanding making the internship an enjoyable and comfortable place.

I believe this course improved my professional presence because of the positive experience I had at this internship. Also creating my WIX page and linking it to my LinkedIn definitely made a positive view for my future employers. I gained a lot of growth, knowledge, and confident by enrolling in this internship class.
