Before taking this course, I had no idea what an ePortolifo was utilized for. However, after realizing the great use of this online portfolio I was very thrilled and wanted to make it unique and professional for my future career. At first I was very skeptical because I did not know what a “professional” ePortfolio looked like, but I believe I accomplished that goal after researching several other online portfolios. I learned to watch over the comments, and photos on social media after creating the online portfolio because anything can ruin your chance of getting a dream job. This project made me realize that anything I do from now on will have an impact on my future professional career.

After completing interpersonal relationship COMM 351, I realized that I have grown and became a better communicator when it involves the professional setting. I gained useful knowledge regarding diversity and gender differences in the work place. “Cultural Diversity Paper” is my favorite sample writing in my online portfolio because it actually relates to my every day life. I’m currently an intern for Comcast Spectacor, and I noticed that our office is very male oriented with 85% of the office workers are men, and 90% of them are white-American. If I’m being completely honest, I feel very uncomfortable working there because I seem to be looked-down at because I’m an intern, a female, and also a minority. I gained confidence because educating myself about the gender and diversity differences made me a stronger individual. I would have probably felt miserable without the knowledge.

“About Me” may be my most favorite section in my ePortfolio because I can really show the employers who I really am, what my achievement and goals are. I explained my past work experiences, my college major, extracurricular activities, and an overall explanation for my success. Also the picture in that section explains a little about my personality because I look very happy, and activity. This section positively describes who I am and my future endeavor.

I believe it would be challenging for a person with lack of job experience, or skill to create an ePortfolio because of the contents that goes into it. Fortunately, I did not have that problem because I already had a resume ready so I inserted the information straight off my resume when I created my portfolio. Personally, I thought the design of the portfolio was a challenge because I did not know what is consider a “professional” portfolio or what employees would enjoy when looking at a candidate’s online portfolio. I base my portfolio off the examples that I found online, but I made it very bright, and likeable to the viewers since I’m going towards the marketing profession. If I were to give few advices to the future students I would tell them to manage their time for the ePortfolio, have a resume, set of skills or experiences ready, and to be creative. Creativity is the key because you should want your portfolio to stand out to make the employers remember you as one of their top candidates for the job.

Interpersonal and organizational communications are used together to create a successful work environment. Interpersonal communication requires actions such as using words or gestures to exchange information or feelings between people. Organizational communication is used to reach an objective between people to create a successful workplace. Interpersonal communication is a foundation of organizational communication because it helps create effective teamwork environments and with operational efficiency.

By educating the associates with ethical communication can create a happier and comfortable setting for the work place. That is because there would be less conflict and many would feel less uncomfortable in the work place. If we create an environment where everyone was kind, honest, and truthful with each other it will help the workers come together as a team and to create a family in the office for an effective workplace. I pay more attention about the way I communicate with others after taking this course because I learned that every little action will have an impact on someone. It improved my communication skill my bosses, gained knowledge on professional requirements to effectively finish a task, and helped me build connections with my fellow coworkers.
